Eleanor L. Schwoch, 87, of Beaver Dam, died peacefully on Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, at Hillside Manor, Beaver Dam.

The funeral will be held on Friday, Nov. 16, at 1:30 p.m., at the First Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam. The Rev. Mark Jensen will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Beaver Dam.

Mrs. Schwoch was born on July 14, 1914, in Lake Mills, the daughter of Herman and Lena (Voight) Rosenthal. Upon her mother's death in 1917, she went to live with her cousin Lucy and Fred Christ in Beaver Dam.

Mrs. Schwoch graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 1933 as class salutatorian. After graduation, she worked as a secretary at Monarch Range where she met her future husband, Wilbert. Having lived under the name Eleanor Christ since moving to Beaver Dam, she legally had it changed before getting married to Wilbert on Oct. 21, 1939. During World War II, Eleanor joined her husband in Pleasanton, Calif., and worked at the Pleasanton Bank.

She was a member of the First Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam, since marriage and taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school there. She worked as a secretary for Green Giant for 25 years. After retiring, she played the organ at church services for seniors at Lakeside.

Mrs. Schwoch and her husband enjoyed traveling and were able to visit all 50 states, Canada and Mexico. They toured 12 countries in Europe and had a delightful trip to Australia and New Zealand. Besides travel, her other hobbies included playing the piano and organ, embroidering, crocheting and reading.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Wilbert Schwoch; one daughter, Janet (Philip) Jones, Woodland Hills, Calif.; one son, Gerald (Mary) Schwoch, Middleton; five grandchildren, Raimi, Kara, Matt and Keith Jones, and Anna Schwoch; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
