Shirley M. Klein, 81, of Hammond died on Wednesday, Jan. 23, at the American
Heritage Care Center.
She was born the daughter of Theodore and Elsie (Bogenschneider) Duckert on Nov.
27, 1926, in Roberts.
Shirley graduated from Roberts High School in 1945 and went to work for
Montgomery Ward’s as an accountant.
Shirley M. Klein, 81, of Hammond died on Wednesday, Jan. 23, at the American
Heritage Care Center.

On Sept. 20, 1947, she married Joseph Klein at the St. Paul Cathedral. The
couple spent their entire married life residing in Hammond. Shirley worked as a
waitress for a few years at the Hammond Hotel and volunteered for many years at
the American Heritage Care Center.
She enjoyed crafts, bowling, playing cards and reading.
Shirley is survived by sister, Minnie Aune of Amery; sisters-in-law, Leona
Hewitt of Plum City, Verneal Magner of Beloit and Donna Winkleman of Florida;
and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by parents; husband, Joe Klein; brothers, Rupert “Mike”
and Ted Duckert; half sisters, Anna Farr and Ruth Rasmussen; sisters, Elizabeth
Snoeyenbos, Mayme Soule, Lucille Oswald, Grace Halverson, Catherine Doornink and
Jane Duckert.
A Mass of Christian Burial was Monday, Jan. 28, at 2 p.m. at Immaculate
Conception Catholic Church in Hammond.
Visitation was Monday one hour before the service at the church.
Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hammond with John Snoeyenbos, Phillip
Duckert, Kenneth Peterson, Keith Doornink, LeRoy Zimmerman and William Cave
serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer was Ted Riley.
Arrangements were with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services of Baldwin.
